Paraiba topaz is sea green in color. Some examples are more on the blue end of the spectrum, others on the green, with the majority being a beautiful mix of the two. Paraiba topaz isn’t naturally colored. Just like mystic topaz, Paraiba topaz is colorless topaz that’s been coated with a thin layer. This coating transforms the once colorless topaz into a beautiful sea green color. The coating not only provides a bright burst of color, it slightly diminishes the transparency of the topaz, giving it an added depth.
But this transformation doesn’t enhance the value and won’t fool an appraiser. In terms of value, these Paraiba topaz should be considered and valued as though they were colorless topaz. That’s why we’ve priced them all out at just $2-$5 per carat. These stones are definitely beautiful and will definitely look great inside almost any piece of jewelry, but for the pure collector, you’d probably do better choosing from our other selection of fine stones.
